Products That'll Help You Get Baby Soft Skin

When I was a kid, I noticed small, skin-colored bumps behind my upper arms. My mom asked my pediatrician what it was & he diagnosed me with Keratosis Pilaris, also known as KP or chicken skin. These bumps are basically caused by hair follicles that are clogged with dead skin cells. There is no cure to KP, but there are things you can do at home to reduce the severity & amount you may have. As an adult who was becoming more self-aware about how I take care of the skin on my body, I wanted to find a ways to reduce my own KP.

The first person who really got me into body skincare was Susan Yara. She came out with a routine video on her YouTube channel & talked about ways she's been able to get smooth skin not just on her face, but on her body as well. I was convinced & purchased a body care set from Nécessaire (now available at Sephora) called The Body Collection in the scent 'Eucalyptus'. I pretty much loved everything in the set, but if I had to choose two it would be the body wash & the body exfoliator because I feel like it's helped the most with my KP.

The body wash contains vitamins, antioxidants, & oils that nourish, protect, & strengthen the skin, which are ingredients I want for my skin in general. Since I started using this product, I haven't had any issues, like sensitivity or irritation, with it. Although it contains several surfactants, it's super mild on the skin, meaning it cleanses without stripping my skin of any moisture. It's a luxurious product that I look forward to using everyday.

The body exfoliator is another love of mine. Yes, this product has physical scrubs (pumice & bamboo charcoal) in it that we should avoid when it comes to our faces, but they are so small & more accepted for use on the body. This exfoliant contains chemical exfoliants as well, like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, & lactic acid, to help unclog your pores on a cellular level. I use this one 3-4x a week & it's one product that has helped me slowly get rid of my KP. There are still bumps on my arms, but to a much lesser degree than before.

Post-shower, I usually do my face skincare routine first then move onto my body skincare. By the time I get to work on my body, it's usually already dry, so I do like to layer a body oil first. The two I've been alternating between are the Johnson's baby oil & Nuori's Perfecting body oil (gifted). The Johnson's baby oil is primarily made up of mineral oil that is petroleum-based. There's no added benefits to using this one other than to help the skin retain its moisture... oh yeah, & the scent, duh! I've actually been enjoying the Nuori one much more because of its skin benefits. It contains rosehip oil (rich in essential fatty acids & antioxidants), vitamin E, & grape seed, apricot kernel, & avocado oils to nourish & protect the skin. The packaging is also another plus because it's made out of glass. The luxuriousness of it makes using it such a pleasure.

As for body lotion, the two I rotate through are the La Roche-Posay Intense Repair moisturizing cream & the Nuori Vital body balm (gifted). Both luxuriously thick body creams that I actually enjoy equally. They are similar in texture, spreadability, & overall the way it feels on my skin. Of course the La Roche-Posay one can be found at the drugstore, so obviously it's more readily available. What I love about the Nuori one tho is that it contains avocado oil, shea butter & glycerin for hydration; grapeseed oil, which is high in omega-6 fatty acid, great for its reparative effects; & vitamin E for protection.
